The West Library offers the following services to support classroom instruction on information literacy and the research process:
- The Texas Information Literacy Tutorial (TILT)
- TILT is an interactive tutorial, sponsored by the UT System Digital Library, which is designed to introduce first year students to the research process. It would, however, be useful to any student who needs to sharpen his or her research skills.
The TILT tutorial includes an introduction and three modules that can be completed in any order. Each module takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and ends with a short ten-question quiz. Resources for librarians and educators are included as well.
- Library Instruction Sessions
- Library instruction sessions are designed to acquaint students with the resources and services offered by the West Library. The library offers two basic types of sessions:
General Library Orientations
- General library orientations are designed to help acquaint new students with the layout of the library and the services we offer.
Subject Specific Library Orientations
- Subject specific orientations are tailored to meet the needs of your class. Typically, these sessions are used to:
- Introduce students to resources suitable for a specific assignment (both print and electronic), or to
- Introduce students to information sources in a particular field.
Since these sessions are tailored to meet the needs of your class, if you feel your students would benefit from some things typically covered in the general orientation, they can be covered in your session.
For additional information or to schedule a library instruction session, please call the Reference desk at (817) 531-4802.
